Awesome backpacking blogs by women

by Adelaide on May 26, 2010

I’ve been feeling super psyched that there are some cool women out there blogging about backpacking. Go team! Here are a few of my favorites. If you didn’t make the list, send me an e-mail because I’d like to know about your site.

Her Side of the Mountain: A blog by a pretty rockin’ solo female hiker and self-proclaimed “girly girl.” Who says you can’t have it all?   Here’s a nice article about hiker community.

Hiking Lady: A blog and website written by an incredibly knowlegable female hiker. While you are there, check out Hiking 101 for a lot of useful articles.

Zen hiker: A female hiker with her own Darwin Award Disclaimer (I should probably write one of those for myself). A hilarious article on Female Body Logistics.

Jenny’s PCT walk for Jake: My hiking buddy, Erin, is really into this blog. The writer, Jenny, is doing a 1,000 mile section of the PCT. She’s pretty badass and a fellow Portlander.

Boom De Ah Da, Boom De Ah Da I just discovered this one. It’s about “Elly Vortex and Thunderdog bumbling through the wilderness.” I like the picture of her kissing her new boots.

And some cool online magazines for women:

Go Girl Magazine: This is “the newest mag about women on the run.”  This site is traveling and backpacking, and there is a good variety of female writers (and I think a guy, too).

Women’s Adventure Magazine: Online and in print, this is “the magazine for women who run, bike, backpack, climb, paddle, snowboard, ski, travel, and enjoy outdoor endeavors that fee mind, body, and soul.” There are a lot of great articles here and places to share your own photos and stories.

Hooray for all these online resources for female backpackers!
