Big changes on PCT plans

by Adelaide on February 2, 2011

Hello internets. I have been much away from this blog these past few months for two reasons.

I was:

1) Working two jobs over Christmas.

2) Trying to figure a few things out.

It’s looking like I won’t be able to go on the PCT this year. I know, I’m bummed too. The timing isn’t working out, and the more I try to rearrange things and push to make it work, the more I realize that this is not the year for me. Argh. It’s frustrating because I have put so much time and effort in planning this trip.

Erin is still going and I am super proud of her. She’s decided to go solo and see who she meets along the way. She’s looking for a way to keep her friends and family updated on her trip, and I’ll post that information as it comes. I’m also going to be twisting her arm for a few guest posts here and pictures. I’ll still be helping her train and pick out gear. And I’ll be rooting for her all the way.

I’m not sure what direction this blog will take now that I’m not focused on the PCT. I’m a little lost about it, but I figure I’ll just keep writing silly stories and crossing my fingers for next year.

Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive.

Go team,

Addy

Hi, Addy,
I came in thru the back door; after “meeting” Erin “Wired” who hiked early on the PCT with my step-grandson Will [Top Shelf]. Will posts an occasional photo so we know his whereabouts, but since I wanted to know more details of where he was, I started shadowing [my youngest son calls it stalking] other PCTers to catch word of where he was. I’m following Erin closer than the others; she is more reliable in almost daily posts…and I am so rooting for her to finish…I hold my breath. i have thousands of miles of hiking in California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado starting from 1952 when we climbed Whitney, Muir and several Ca. mountains. That’s where I first hiked part of the PCT….and was so intrigued i knew I HAD to do it someday. My mother was born in Tennessee and always dreamed of going back down via the AT…when dad retired. Both died within months of his retirement…and I didn’t want that to happen to me. Long story short, a life saving spinal to deliver my last child caesearian, affected my sciatica nerve and though I hiked many miles after that, I could foresee no way to do the PCT, so I just read everything I can about it. I like to think I may have influenced Will to hike the PCT [he was already hiking all over Washington]; I gave him my copy of Joseph Hazard’s 1943 Trail Guide. It was 15 years after I bought it in 1972, that I found I was distantly related to Mr. Hazard. Our house burned to the ground and I started doing geneaology. Our folks came early to Massachusetts in the 1600s.
I’m happy to read that you and Erin are still supportive of one another and I can understand your disaapointment of a dream delayed. This is another one of my short notes, which like Topsy…just grew.
